Privacy Policy
What we collect when you use Jetiquette.org, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do about it.
Last updated September 19, 2026
The short version
We collect as little as we can. We ask for your details when you write to us, subscribe to the column or buy something, and we use them to answer, to send what you asked for, or to fulfil your order. We do not sell your data, and we do not run advertising trackers on this site.
Who is responsible for your data
[LEGAL ENTITY: Airoplex LLC], publisher of Jetiquette.org, is the controller of the personal data described here. You can reach us at [PRIVACY EMAIL: privacy@jetiquette.org] or by post at [POSTAL ADDRESS].
What we collect
When you write to us. The contact, press, speaking, licensing and Ask Jetiquette forms collect your name, your email address and your message, and, depending on the form, your organization, phone number, deadline or preferred format. We keep a record of the enquiry so we can answer it and so we know who we have already spoken to.
When you subscribe. The newsletter collects your email address, and the date you subscribed.
When you order. The shop collects your name, email address, billing and shipping address, and the contents of your order. Card details are handled by our payment processor and never reach our servers.
When you comment. A comment records the name, email address and any city you give, along with your comment and the time you left it.
As you read. We record a small number of first-party events, such as which stage of the Guide has been opened and which media kit files have been downloaded, so we know what is useful. These are counted on our own server and are not shared with anyone.
Why we are allowed to hold it
Where the law requires a basis for processing, ours are these: your consent, when you subscribe to the newsletter or send a question for publication; the performance of a contract, when you place an order; and our legitimate interest in answering enquiries, running this site and keeping a record of who has asked us what.
Who else sees it
Our hosting provider, which stores the site and its database. Our email provider, which delivers our replies and the newsletter. Our payment processor, which takes card payments. Our print and fulfilment partner, which receives the name, address and order contents needed to make and ship your order.
Each is given only what it needs to do its job. We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing.
Cookies
This site sets a session cookie when you use the shop, so your basket survives moving between pages, and WordPress sets a cookie if you leave a comment or sign in. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
How long we keep it
Enquiries and the contact record attached to them are kept for [RETENTION: three years] from our last exchange, so we can pick up a conversation where it left off. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Order records are kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require, which is generally [RETENTION: seven years].
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to our holding it. Every newsletter carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority. If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what we collect and to ask us to delete it, and we do not sell personal information as that term is defined under California law.
To exercise any of these, write to [PRIVACY EMAIL: privacy@jetiquette.org]. We answer within [RESPONSE TIME: thirty days].
Where your data is held
Our site and its service providers are located in [DATA LOCATION: the United States]. If you write to us from outside that country, your data is transferred there. Where that transfer needs a safeguard under your local law, we rely on [TRANSFER MECHANISM: standard contractual clauses].
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has sent us something, write to us and we will remove it.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, access to the database is restricted to the people who maintain it, and payment details are handled entirely by our payment processor. No site can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable measures and review them.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes we update the date at the foot of this page. If a change materially affects how we use your data, we will say so in the newsletter.
